More info

Claude Bolling, pianist, composer, orchestra conductor and band leader is an accomplished musician, one of those who knows how to manage a musical creation starting from a theme and bringing it to its definitive form, including its development and its orchestration.

Internationally acclaimed, he is one of the most famous French musicians.

First and foremost a jazzman, he emulates both the rag-time and modern jazz greats and, as a young boy, was both a disciple and friend to some of the greatest. He started his recording career at 18.

Whether performing in concert or as a music creator in every area of the audio-visual artform, his many activities have allowed him to meet some of the top classical musicians.

His very first composition which mixed classical and jazz was made for two pianos and recorded with Jean-Bernard Pommier (Sonata for Two Pianists). After hearing it, Jean-Pierre Rampal requested Claude Bolling to conceive a dialogue between his flute in all its classical purity and jazz. The result was the “Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio”, a work which achieved unparalleled success, and following which Claude Bolling was considered the inventor of a genre known as Crossover Music. This phenomenon led to the writing and performing of about ten major works, for guitar (Alexandre Lagoya), violin (Pinchas Zukerman), trumpet (Maurice Andre), chamber orchestra (English Chamber Orchestra), and cello (Yo Yo Ma) amongst others.

All these compositions are now performed and recorded all over the world and are programmed in many music conservatories and schools.

The transcriptions that we have the pleasure to present to you are faithful to Claude Bolling’s original recordings, and Bolling himself oversaw their printing.
