Paul Gauguin považoval maliarstvo za umenie, ktoré "pôsobí na dušu okľukou cez zmysly, ako hudba a jeho farebné tóny zodpovedajú harmóniám zvukov.“ Išlo mu teda aj o obsah, ktorý sa z impresionistického umenia vytratil. Chcel vytvoriť nový figurálny obraz. Zjednodušil líniu a do obrazu vniesol čisté farby, využívajúc ich rozdielne dištančné hodnoty na budovanie priestoru a objemu.

Publikace představuje tvorbu pozdně gotického sochaře Tilmana Riemenschneidera prostřednictvím vybraných fotografií Günthera a Klause Beyerových. Kniha zachycuje detaily soch i výrazové nuance, které odhalují citlivý přístup autora k lidské postavě a duchovní hloubku jeho děl. Výtvarný obsah je doplněn komentářem, jenž umožňuje lépe porozumět Riemenschneiderovu místu v evropském sochařství.
