Roger Crowley je spisovatel a historik žijící ve Velké Británii, absolvent Univerzity v Cambridge. Jako dítě z rodiny námořníka byl vždy fascinován námořnictvím a historií, a to od útlého věku. Žil v Istanbulu, procestoval křížem krážem celé Turecko. Jeho hlavním zájmem je Byzantská, Benátská a Osmanská říše, námořnictví a historie zprostředkovaná očitými svědky. Je autorem knih o říších Středozemí a jeho okolí: 1453: The Holy War for Constantinople and the Clash of Islam and the West; Empires of the Sea: The Siege of Malta, the Battle of Lepanto, and the Contest for the Center of the World; City of Fortune: How Venice Ruled the Seas; a Conquerors: How Portugal Forged the Worlds First Global Empire. ------------------- Roger Crowley is a U.K.-based writer and historian and a graduate of Cambridge University. As the child of a naval family, his fascination with maritime and world history started early, on the island of Malta. He has lived in Istanbul, walked across much of western Turkey, and traveled widely throughout the region. His particular interests are the Byzantines, Venetian, and Ottoman empires, seafaring and eyewitness history. He is the author of four books on the empires of the Mediterranean and its surroundings: 1453: The Holy War for Constantinople and the Clash of Islam and the West; Empires of the Sea: The Siege of Malta, the Battle of Lepanto, and the Contest for the Center of the World; City of Fortune: How Venice Ruled the Seas; and Conquerors: How Portugal Forged the Worlds First Global Empire.
